{"id":359,"date":"2013-11-02T05:50:13","date_gmt":"2013-11-02T05:50:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/facebooklet.ca\/blog2\/?p=359"},"modified":"2018-06-14T21:06:25","modified_gmt":"2018-06-14T21:06:25","slug":"nov-1-enders-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/facebooklet.ca\/blog2\/nov-1-enders-game\/","title":{"rendered":"Nov 1:  Ender&#8217;s Game"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>We enter November with a new movie offering:\u00a0 <em>Ender&#8217;s Game<\/em>.\u00a0 The book, by Orson Scott Card, has been on the suggested reading list of the US Marine Corps.<\/h1>\n<p>Halloween went well.\u00a0 The house looked good, with eight jack-o-lanterns, some cotton spider&#8217;s web, and other assorted decs.\u00a0 We tried glow sticks in two of the jack-o-lanterns, which worked out well.\u00a0 I met about forty-five trick-or-treaters in front of the house, which is a pretty good turnout for our neighbourhood.<\/p>\n<p>My wife fixed up our kids&#8217; costumes:\u00a0 they looked awesome.\u00a0 She took them to a different neighbourhood, where the houses are closer together and there are more kids.\u00a0 They pulled in quite a haul.<\/p>\n<p>Halloween is my favourite holiday.\u00a0 It symbolizes the change of season and the presence of an unseen world that, nonetheless, affects the one we know.\u00a0 I love the artistry and imagination of Halloween.<\/p>\n<p>I find Halloween a dividing point in the year.\u00a0 After it, we enter the rainy season &#8211; witness today.\u00a0 Mist hangs in the trees, the temp hovering between 5 and 8, with no sun for days at a time.\u00a0 My younger son loves the rain; winter is his favourite season.\u00a0 By the way:\u00a0 no other part of Canada has weather like this except the west coast.<\/p>\n<p>To <em>Ender&#8217;s Game:\u00a0 <\/em>I know my wife will see it.\u00a0 I never watch movies; I just hear about them.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve read a bit about this one.\u00a0 It sounds like an echo of the Cold War era &#8211; preparation against invasion.<\/p>\n<p>As someone who grew up in a Cold War military family, on or near military bases, I don&#8217;t miss that era, nor do I see it returning.\u00a0 Luckily, the world seems to have adopted a new way of thinking.<\/p>\n<p>In everyday life, though, people strategize to gain advantage in their relationships.\u00a0 People with talent &#8211; like Ender has &#8211; can realize tremendous success.\u00a0 However, the really powerful people usually end up matching their skills against others similar.<em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Whether or not you&#8217;re going out to see Ender&#8217;s Game, have a great night.\u00a0 Let me know how you liked it:)<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s Ender Wiggin.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/..\/ender.png\" alt=\"Ender Wiggin\"\/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ender%27s_Game\">Wikipedia<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1731141\/\">IMDb<\/a> were sources for this article.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We enter November with a new movie offering:\u00a0 Ender&#8217;s Game.\u00a0 The book, by Orson Scott Card, has been on the suggested reading list of the US Marine Corps.
