My older son, Paul, has always been artistic.\u00a0 Luckily, he’s interested in drawing – sometimes.<\/h1>\n

From age two, Paul’s shown he’s a natural artist.\u00a0 We were carving pumpkins, so we gave him a marker to draw a face on one.\u00a0 He did so in about 90 seconds, then handed back the marker.\u00a0 The curves he’d marked on the pumpkin looked like nothing to me.<\/p>\n

“Paul, are you sure you’re happy with that?”<\/p>\n

Even at two, Paul didn’t doubt himself; he nodded his head.\u00a0 His answer was final.<\/p>\n

I carved Paul’s pumpkin, then my wife put a candle in it.\u00a0 We put it in a dark room.<\/p>\n

Paul’s jack-o-lantern came to life.\u00a0 With the light coming through, we realized that he’d drawn a face on an angle.\u00a0 We hadn’t been able to discern the effect on the surface of the pumpkin, but with the candle shining through, we couldn’t miss it.\u00a0 It’s not an effect I<\/em> would be confident to try for.<\/p>\n

I’m not talented; Paul is.\u00a0 I always wonder where he’ll go with art.\u00a0 Since the summer, he’s been drawing, now and then.<\/p>\n

Details and that “finished look” are very important to Paul.\u00a0 His mother is the same, while I’m so opposite.<\/p>\n
