{"id":120,"date":"2013-05-23T23:10:49","date_gmt":"2013-05-23T23:10:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/facebooklet.ca\/blog2\/?p=120"},"modified":"2018-06-14T21:13:58","modified_gmt":"2018-06-14T21:13:58","slug":"tommy-hilfiger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/facebooklet.ca\/blog2\/tommy-hilfiger\/","title":{"rendered":"Tommy Hilfiger"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>I discovered Tommy Hilfiger after most people &#8211; but I remain a fan.<\/h1>\n<p>In my business, I work with many teens. \u00a0In &#8217;96, the affluent ones wore Calvin Klein. \u00a0By &#8217;97 or &#8217;98, though, many wore Tommy. \u00a0His red, white and blue logo was small, yet prominent, on many items.<\/p>\n<p>One theme of this blog is how I&#8217;m habitually a latecomer to many scenes. \u00a0I didn&#8217;t actually own any Tommy until sometime in the mid 00s &#8211; long after my students had mostly switched to other brands. \u00a0I&#8217;m sure I remember buying my Tommy pants off a wide table at Costco. \u00a0I have some of his socks as well.<\/p>\n<p>In my world, Tommy was the last &#8220;solo&#8221; designer I saw people wear. \u00a0For years now, the teens have worn companies&#8217; labels, but not peoples&#8217; names. \u00a0It&#8217;s another example of how solo efforts are getting rare nowadays.<\/p>\n<p>Hilfiger had a reality show &#8211; centered on designing clothes, of course &#8211; in 2005 called\u00a0<em>The Cut.<\/em> \u00a0It was similar in format to Trump&#8217;s <em>Apprentice &#8211;<\/em> which I like very much. \u00a0However, Hilfiger&#8217;s might have been even better. \u00a0As I recall, Tommy put in less air time each episode than Donald does. \u00a0Tommy, like Donald, eliminated a contestant each week. Tommy&#8217;s cut line was &#8220;You&#8217;re out of style: \u00a0Take the catwalk.&#8221; \u00a0He had a grittier style than Donald, and talked less. \u00a0The Cut was, I think, a summer show. \u00a0I always hoped it would return. \u00a0To my knowledge, it never did &#8211; I&#8217;ve always wondered why not.<\/p>\n<p>Tommy, you had your part in defining the late 90s for me. \u00a0I still see your clothes. \u00a0Will we be seeing you front and centre again?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Tommy Hilfiger\" src=\"\/..\/tomhil.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tommy_Hilfiger\">Wikipedia<\/a> was a source for this article.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I discovered Tommy Hilfiger after most people &#8211; but I remain a fan.
